What is hydrotherapy and how can it benefit your dog?

Hydrotherapy simply means “healing with water”. The hydrotherapy pool provides a non weight bearing form of exercise for the dog, as well as providing great physical and mental stimulation. Hydrotherapy is beneficial for the following conditions:-
  • Pre & post operative conditions
  • Hip and Elbow Dysplasia
  • Cruciate ligament damage
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Amputation
  • Paralysis
  • OCD
  • Pain and Swelling
  • Arthritis
  • Extremely benefical for neurological conditions
  • Obesity

It can also aid behavioral problems by providing a safe environment for the dog to be exercised and by providing mental stimulation. Great for young large breed dogs due to the non weight bearing nature of the pool.

Excellent for improving the overall fitness of the dog especially for sport dogs that compete in disciplines such as fly ball, agility, IPO, obedience, Gundog and for the show dog. It is also a great way to introduce young dogs/puppys to water!

To monitor your dogs progress we will measure the dogs muscle mass on the 1st session and then subsequently on every 10th session.  Weight will also be recorded.

Steve

With my many years of experience of working with dogs though friends and customers, I have come in to contact with many dogs who have become injured or had surgery where the recovery has been long or unsuccessful. This led me to look into different methods of recovery in which I came across hydrotherapy.

I watched a few sessions out of curiosity and interest. This led me into looking to have my own hydrotherapy centre alongside my Dog Training School, Kennels and Cattery. After studying and completing all my qualifications I am now a fully qualified hydro-therapist of my own hydrotherapy centre!

Ellie

After being a part of the team at crossroads kennels for a couple of years, a fantastic opportunity came about that I desperately wanted to be a part of.

Throughout my whole life I have had a strong passion to help animals of all sizes, from cats and dogs to horses. I wanted to go into a career that revolved around the care and comfort of animals and hydrotherapy was the ideal area for me. Having seen the positive effect hydrotherapy has on the older or injured animal, and always having elderly animals myself, I knew this is what I wanted to do.

I began work in the kennels and cattery where I have spent my time caring for a variety of different sizes and temperaments. Having studied and completed my qualifications I am now a fully qualified hydrotherapist and I am loving bringing joy to the animals I get to treat
