NARCH Registered Canine Hydrotherapists.

We have a specially designed hydrotherapy pool providing small pets with non-weight bearing exercise relieving pressure on joints – reducing pain and encouraging movement. The water resistance means your pets move slower which helps to reduce further injury and means the animal must work hard to move forward, which will help to increase muscle strength and bulk. Animals are subject to hydrostatic pressure while in water, this has the effect of a gentle pressure bandage on limbs – reducing swelling and pain, especially useful for animals with elbow, stifle, carpal and tarsal injuries or if they have arthritis.

Our Hydrotherapy Centre is registered and recognised by NARCH, a non-for-profit organisation that maintains the List of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists within the UK. NARCH ensures that all registered Hydrotherapists adhere to the highest standards. One of the requirements NARCH enforce is that all registered Hydrotherapists are never to swim an animal without having the vet’s permission/consent form; this is so they can put the right treatment plan in place and ensure what is appropriate for the animal. Registered Canine Hydrotherapists are trained in Pool Water Management – the chemical levels in the pool are tested three times a day to make sure that it is safe for both animals and humans. Detailed records must be kept.

To swim your small animals with us at Crossroads Hydrotherapy, they will have to have an initial assessment swim. This will help our hydrotherapists to determine which type of swim is best for them, a fitness swim or rehabilitation swim. The assessment costs £50 for a 1-hour session which includes a second swim free of charge. From then, fitness swims cost £30 per individual session, or you can buy 10 for £250 saving you £50! Hydrotherapy swims cost £35 per swim or 10 for £350 with your 11th swim free.

Before any swim, a consent form must be filled out by your pet’s vet, so we know whether they are fit enough to swim. Hydrotherapists also need to be aware of any previous medical history that is relevant. Crossroads Hydrotherapy Centre has a large pool suitable for bigger breeds, it is custom built to 5.1m x 2.5m and is 1.2m deep.
